Monday, September 16 | Hot Sauce-Making Workshop with Jonathan Steels

  • Where: Melinda Seaman Hall, St. Hilda’s College

Tuesday, September 17 | Garden Drop-in Session

Join us in the garden! We’re watering, harvesting, planting for fall, and taking care of garden maintenance—and we’d love your help. Come get your hands in the soil and enjoy some time outdoors. Hope to see you there!

  • When: Tuesday, September 17, 2024 from 1 pm to 2 pm
  • Where: Meet in St. Hilda’s College Backyard
  • What to wear: Comfortable clothes you don’t mind getting a bit dirty
  • Bonus: Take home some fresh produce from the harvest

Wednesday, September 18 | Earthsongs: Reimagining Relation in Gardening and Poetry with Bill Kroeger

In this 1-1.5 hour workshop, we will consider some poems and other writings addressing relation between human and other-than-human, focusing on all the members of our local community. We’ll collaborate on fall gardening activities that stimulate attention to our garden and the ecosystem it inhabits. Then, we’ll write some poetry based on prompts that are related to our gardening. Sharing optional!

  • When: Wednesday, September 18, 2024 from 10 am to 11:30 am
  • Where: St. Hilda’s College Front Yard
  • Earthsongs focuses on human gardening experiences, especially in terms of relations with other species: we garden and then we write poetry based on our gardening. We hope that this provides an opportunity to rethink material relationships across disciplinary boundaries – touching the soil, planting, observing plant-animal symbiosis – through poetic re-imagining of these connections with our community (both human and other-than-human). In other words, our poetry helps us reconsider our ecological interrelatedness. The physical materiality of our gardening experiences may also help shape and ground our poetry.

Thursday, September 19 | Garden Drop-in Session
